Had a lovely time with , , and family last night. We carved some AWESOME
pumpkins, drank cider, and listened to Real Ghost Stories around the
fire. It was so relaxing and I’ve been feeling so un-relaxed lately
that it was a super welcome break.
DAMN. Now I REALLY need to learn!!! *laughs* Ofenjen proves psychic!!
This is a paperpiecing hobbit themed quilt thing. I MUST TRY THIS!
talked me into starting an art journal. Now, while I consider myself pretty crafty, I am quite daunted by the whole, paper art thing. My drawing skills are pretty meh. And next to Elaby and Callista… my drawing looks like it was done by an inebriated chimp. Seriously, those ladies are TALENTED AND SKILLED.
Srsly, check them out Elaby and Astillac BUT, I said I’d do it. Because I’ve always wanted to do an art journal. They look so COOL. And while mine might not be nearly as awesome as theirs, it could still be my own kind of awesome. So here’s my first couple pages!

OMFG. So. Yes.
A few weeks ago I saw a sign in our local Michael’s craft store that they were looking for a knitting and crochet instructor.
And I thought, hey, I can do that. Hey, I’ve taught amigurumi classes. Hey, I liked doing it.
So I sent in an application.
And today I got a CALL BACK! I have an interview on Friday! ZOMG!
They want me to bring my portfolio. And some samples.
I do not have a portfolio. So I need some advice. Do I print out some pictures of FO’s and assemble them into a binding of some sort? 3 Ring? Bound at staples?
I’m definitely going to bring some samples. The rainbow lace shawl comes to mind, and some others. But I need some input!
What from my Rav FO page should I bring – http://www.ravelry.com/projects/caitirin Suggestions?
And do I need to assemble that portfolio?
HELP!
We talked with the mortgage guy and he was AWESOME. Told us about some awesome programs we didn’t know about and was super great to talk with.
And now we’re ready to start looking at some houses!
How do you go about choosing a real estate agent? We’ve gotten a frillion recommendations so far and I’m just confused about what we should look for in that regard. Is there a Yelp for realtors?
How did you choose yours?
I wicked wanna set up a viewing of this place in Rollinsford!
I’m ridiculously excited about these socks. I’m enjoying the knitting a great deal (despite the angst of needing to rip back an inch in yarn that is SLIPPERY and likes to drop stitches if you look at it sideways). But I’m even more excited about WEARING these things! Could this be the start of my sock knitting re-invented self? Who knows! Maybe! SOCKS FTW! I’m still loving Spectra. Stephen West, you are a genius. I love the design. I also REALLY need to cast on his mystery shawl. Which means I need to WIND MY SKEINS OMG. Must do that tonight. Tonight I’m also taking pictures for the Project Project Runway challenge that Elaby and I are doing. Designing doll clothes in the spirit of the challenges the designers get on the actual project runway. Their names are Mia and Olli (short for Olivia) and we’ve decided that they are adorable little lesbian girlfriends.
We turned our dining room table into a work station!
And now I REALLY need to do a TTMT video! :)
I’ve started knitting the Skew Socks! You can check them out in BaconKnitters Flickr Page Here -
Here’s the Skews in progress, really more like proto-Skews socks at the moment with naught but half a toe.
And I’m still working on the Spectra. It’s still a really fun knit. I always go, just one more wedge!
Moving into orange! I am just that simple that watching yarn change colors while I knit holds my attention like a cat on a laser pointer. Okay, maybe not THAT intense, but it really turns my fibery little crank. Almost into orange!
In other news I’ve been reading Mockingjay (FINALLY) and finding it EXCELLENT. I know I’m not the last person on the planet to read it but I’m pretty far down on the list.
In other news… I made a crockpot chili this morning. Cannot wait for dinner! :)
Specifically this yarn :) This was a braid of corriedale hand dyed by Gnomenapper of DyeingforEwe. I spun it up on my Ashford Scholar wheel on the newly changed ratio which makes it thinner and lighter! YAY! But I said that all before. This is really just an excuse for picture spam!
Hopefully this weekend I’ll get in a proper shop update! This week I’ve got a game to plan, some house cleaning to do, and… wow my life is dull! XD
And… ummm… I’ve having a duel with a duke of the Red Court, no wait, that’s Harry Dresden. Been re-reading all of those lately. I need to sort through what we actually own and buy the ones we’re missing. YAY books! Also I want a Nook! XD
It’s currently 66 degrees here at work. UNH, where they air condition based on calendar date and not by the temperature outside. On June 1 they flick the switch from hot to cold and WHO CARES if June is rainy and dreary and cold? Let’s FREEZE EVERYONE TO DEATH! YAY!
… but I didn’t really post just to whine about how I’m freezing, because really, who picked the short sleeves? Yeah. Anyway, I’m posting to squee about spinning! I’ve done a bundle of spinning lately. I brought my wheel to knitting night for a show and tell session and to let anyone in my group give it a whirl if they were so inclined. A few people were, more were interested in trying a spindle though. Which makes good sense, a wheel is a huge investment :) But I think I’ve got a few spindlers starting! YAY!
And it kicked off my urge to spin again. I adjusted my wheel to use the smaller whorl (which means more twist and thinner singles) and I’m getting smaller single! Which means lighter weights! No more always bulky. I need to do a WPI check on the last 2 skeins, but I think they turned out awesome :) Might even be dk for the second one.
I’ve also figured out what to do with leftover single. And really, it’s a big “DUH” when you think about it. I just wind if off onto my wee niddy noddy and skein it up as single. They’re tiny tiny sample skeins usually 45-60 yards at most, but they’re cute and someday I might use them for amigurumi or monsters or something. Or Wee Beasties if I ever manage to make more of them. *hangs head in shame for failed monster may*. I do have three more Beasties to put into the shop. One of them I absolutely love, I might have to make a twin to keep for myself.
This first one was hand dyed by Gnomenapper and she called it Wishing Well. It looked like it had a bit more yellowish tones in the braid, which I wasn’t sure that I’d like but OH MAN, I am in love with how this turned out. I call it Lake Beach. It kind of boggles the mind how different a braid can look from the finished spinning.
This next one was some little cupcake bits from Stefknits on Etsy. She sells little 1 once remnant balls of things that she deems ‘not perfect’ and I freakin’ LOVE THEM! They spin up into gorgeously colored things which I cannot help but totally adore.
And this last one is just a teeny bit of leftover single that I wound onto the niddy noddy. I call it Here Comes the Sun.
I moved hosts and killed my entire website. Oh the tears.
But I’m rebuilding. I have the technology. Well, I think it’s pretty apparent from the #CaitirinWebFail that I don’t, but I have the determination at least. Wish me luck. And send cookies :)
I got a Wii Fit Plus two days ago, in the hopes that I can kind of trick myself into getting more active by disguising it as fun. So far so good. I've got one heck of a fat little Mii, but I set myself a reasonable goal of losing 10 pounds over the next few months and I've gotten up early the past two mornings to do a mini workout. The Wii Fit workouts are HARDLY major cardio things, at least not the ones so far, but I like the yoga and the strength training things make sense. I get a little bit worried about making too much noise and waking up people downstairs, but I can't see any way around that and I don't actually think I'm making much noise at all.
